Year of the Snake

Phuc Loc Tho (Asian Garden Mall)

A celebration of release and renewal, honoring the new version of yourself. The snake embodies transformation and wisdom, symbolizing quiet perseverance—working diligently without seeking recognition. A humble creature, admired for its ability to evolve and succeed in silence.

I had the privilege of growing up in Garden Grove, as a kid who watched her city grow into the largest Vietnamese community in the U.S. I can't help but feel incredibly grateful to be a part of history. Hearing stories of my parents leaving the South of Vietnam, never knowing that one day they would find themselves in a place reminiscent of Saigon. Except now they are safe and free in Orange County, California, alongside fellow Saigon natives. Together, they helped create a community that is now known as Little Saigon here.

Lunar New Year has always been an emotional holiday for me. It's the one I cherish the most and feel deeply grateful for. It’s a time to honor our ancestors, elders, and parents for giving us life and the freedom they longed for while living in Vietnam. I often reflect on the Vietnam War, which lasted 17 years, and wonder why it endured for so long when, at its core, it was fueled by religious differences.

As I grow into my own spiritual beliefs, I find myself navigating between Buddhism and Catholicism, seeking balance between the two. This journey has taught me to live with non-judgment and compassion because, at the heart of it all, I believe that no matter what you follow, the "book of life" simply teaches us to be good human beings, for ourselves and for others.

This past weekend was filled with immense pride for my culture. The beauty we carry within was reflected through our traditional outfits, vibrant and full of meaning. It was breathtaking to see women dressed to the nines, their smiles and laughter echoing as we reconnected with family, both near and far, all gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of our lives.

Encor Studio Lunar New Year Party

As a Vietnamese American woman, I feel incredibly blessed to have my own business here in Orange County. But what fills me with even more gratitude is that I’ve been able to build it by the beach—a place I once dreamed of as a child, riding the bus and envisioning a life close to the ocean. Now, here I am, coming full circle, moving quietly like the snake—making intentional moves toward my goals, creating small, simple changes that elevate the client experience. I’m always seeking new ways to cultivate a space that embodies peace and tranquility.
